Cologne Karneval is the largest in Germany, with a week of street parties culminating in Rosenmontag, and the city genuinely stops working. Nice Carnival has parades and flower battles on the Mediterranean coast. Cadiz Carnival in Spain is the most musical and the least tourist-oriented.

February skiing, the value weeks
The two or three half term weeks are the most expensive of the ski season. The weeks either side of them are among the best value snow-sure skiing available.
Late February in a high resort gives you reliable snow, days that are already noticeably longer than January, and prices well below the half term peak. The first week of February in most years is also good value before the holidays start.

Winter sun in February
The Canary Islands run 20 to 22C, Egypt 23 to 26C, Cape Verde 24 to 26C, and Morocco 19 to 22C by day. February is marginally warmer than January in all of them.
